Arrived! 50 Knights and Ladies of the Equestrian Order of The Holy Sepulchre

B33BC3AB-68A9-403B-8B78-1347C4866C2FSteve Ray here. I am a Knight. My wife Janet is a Lady.

We are proud members of a chivalrous Order with a noble history of 1,000 years. Our mission: to defend and support the Christian presence in the Holy Land.

C1714FD5-92E4-4C3C-A61C-2387FCCABF8AToday fifty fellow Knights and Ladies of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre arrived in Israel to join us on a pilgrimage following the august steps of millions before them. In the past they arrived by ship and horses (and camels). Today they arrived by airplane and motor coach.

8751AB24-D9BC-4BDD-894F-22C94BC1CEABJanet and I will guide them along with our excellent friend and local guide Amer Shehadeh who is also a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre. He is a Palestinian Arab, Roman Catholic Israeli citizen. There is no better and more knowledgeable Catholic guide in the country. We have worked together on more than 60 Pilgrimages!

197ECD56-D78A-4AAA-9480-50D50AFF8546The North Lieutenancy chapter, with their chaplain Bishop Carl Kemme of Wichita Kansas, has sent these principled Knights and Ladies to see the land, support the local Christians, pray and celebrate Mass at the holiest sites, see the empty Tomb of Christ and earn their pilgrimage shell.

They arrived today and we are proud to lead this noble Order through the Land to visit and experience the Christians and holy sites they’ve sworn to defend and support!

Below is a video of their arrival at the Ben Gurion Airport, their journey north to Galilee and our first Mass and dinner in the Holy Land as the sun sets over the Sea!

Capernaum “Up to Jerusalem”! Visit with Jerusalem Bishop and Entering the Tomb

We started the day by visiting the Ancient Boat from the time of Jesus and then we got on a REAL boat and went for an hour on the Sea of Galilee. I told my story about my night fishing with the Jewish fisherman.

From there we went to Capernaum where we had Mass where Jesus spoke the words “Eat My Flesh and Drink My Blood“. I gave my talk there entitled “Defending the Eucharist.“ (See Fr  Fergus’ excellent homily on the Eucharist here.)

After eating Saint Peters Fish we headed to Jerusalem. The Bible never says “down” to Jerusalem but 28 times it says “up to Jerusalem.”

I told my conversion story along the way and we arrived in time to put on our regalia as Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre to meet the Bishop of Jerusalem and to have our Solemn Entry into the Tomb. Enjoy!

Merry Christmas! All Day in Bethlehem!

Wonderful, rich and full day in Bethlehem. Mass at Shepherds Field (Bishop Kemme’s homily here) and dancing in the Beduion tent Restaurant. Too much for one 15 minute video so I had to make two. Enjoy!

BETHLEHEM, PART I

BETHLEHEM, PART II

Via Dolorosa Carrying our Crosses with Jesus; Mass at Tomb and MUCH more!

Started the day at 4:30 AM but everyone thanked us later 🙂  We did the Via Dolorosa (Stations of the Cross) through Jerusalem before the crowds arrived. We touched the top of Calvary where Jesus was crucified, took a full tour of the Holy Sepulchre and then….

…High Mass at the Tomb! When Bishop Kemme brought out the Eucharist from the inner tomb, we all saw Jesus come out of the Tomb again for us today!

After Mass we went back to the Notre Dame for breakfast, then to the Mount of Olives and then to the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu where Peter denied Jesus and where our Lord was kept in prison over Holy Thursday.

Lunch at the Christian Rossini’s Restaurant inside Jaffa Gate and free time to explore and enjoy. Before dinner we had a tour of the Shroud of Turin display. Enjoy!

VIA DOLOROSA, MASS AT TOMB

MOUNT OF OLIVES, PETER IN GALLICANTU AND MORE

Western Wall, Upper Room, Mass at Gethsemane, Dinner on Rooftop of Jerusalem & more

Busy day today! We started out at the Western Wall and prayed with our hands on the stones Jesus saw. From there we went to Mount Zion and spent a good bit of time praying and talking in the Upper Room.

From there to lunch at a Jewish kibbutz and back for a short rest and then to our Sunday Mass at the Church of Agony in Gethsemane. (Hear the homily here.)

We had our dinner at one of the most exclusive restaurants in Jerusalem where we are looking out from the rooftop of the Notre Dame enjoying the panoramic view of the city. Some of the finest food you can find anywhere in Jerusalem along with great fellowship and friendship.

Fun Day Riding Camels, Floating in Dead Sea, Jericho, Jordan River and more

We started out with Mass at the Notre Dame Center. Here the bishops excellent Homily here.

Then we went to the Israel Museum, the Jordan River,  Jericho, Qumran, floating on the Dead Sea and riding camels.

We had dinner and everyone headed home after marvelous pilgrimage. Watch also our final video with farewells and comments.
