Rome Pilgrimage Day 5: Vatican Museum, St. Peters

by Steve Ray on October 15, 2007

Videos moved to my Pilgrimage website here

Started the day at 8 AM with a private Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica (Chapel of the Partorients’ Holy Mary) in the Crypt of the Popes below the Church. We prayed at the tomb of John Paul II. At 9:00 AM we began our guided tour of the Vatican with our excellent Catholic guide Liz. This tour included the the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter Basilica, where we viewed some of the most inspiring works of art, including Michelangelo's magnificent fresco of the Last Judgment and his Pieta sculpture. The afternoon was free for people to eat and explore on their own.

More on this tomorrow along with the video.

I am so jealous. Visiting Rome is something that I dream of doing! You are so lucky. I did not realize how beautiful St Peters was and that buffet made me hungry.
