About the Pilgrimage
All NEW SITES for those who have come with us on Holy Land Part 1. Exciting places few people ever see on trips to Israel. Lots of Old Testament locations and New Testament as well. This trip is a day longer than Holy Land, part 1.
This itinerary is tentative to change based on the situation in some of these areas. If some sites need to be changed we will have other sites just as biblical and fantastic as these.
Day 1 Tuesday, September 3, 2024 Departure from USA
Depart from the United States on overnight flights to Tel Aviv.
Day 2 Wednesday, September 4, 2024 Arrival in Israel | Galilee | Tiberias
Arrival in Tel Aviv’s modern Ben Gurion Airport. Meet Steve and Janet Ray along with the local team. Transfer to Galilee. Mass and dinner on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Overnight in Tiberias.
Day 3 Thursday, September 5, 2024 Sepphoris | Megiddo | Caesarea | Tiberias
Drive to Sepphoris, near Nazareth, which once served as a center of Jewish religious and spiritual life in Galilee. It is supposed that Joseph and Jesus worked in Sepphoris. Celebrate Mass at St. Anne Church Sepphoris. Drive to Megiddo. We will walk through the Tel and see the Gates of Solomon (1 Kings 9:15) and exit through a tunnel built by King Ahab. Continue to Caesarea Maritime, the Roman capital of Judea. Here St. Peter baptized Cornelius (Acts 10:24) and St. Paul was imprisoned for two years before he was sent to Rome (Acts 24:27). Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.
Day 4 Friday, September 6, 2024 Golan Heights | Sea of Galilee | Kursi | Bethsaida | Chorazin | Tiberias
This morning we drive to the Golan Heights on the other side of the Sea of Galilee. We then descend to view the other place Jesus multiplied loaves and fish and where he walked on the water. From there to Kursi where Jesus healed the man of the Gadarenes plagued by unclean spirits. (Mark 5:21). Celebrate an outdoor Mass. Drive to Bethsaida, birthplace of Peter, Andrew and Philip (John 1:44, 12:21). Drive to Chorazin (Korazim) a city Jesus cursed and see a replica of the chair of Moses. Visit Katzrin for a walk through a restored Talmudic village. Visit the Yarden Winery for a tour and wine tasting. Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.
Day 5 Saturday, September 7, 2024 Acco | Murhaka | Stella Maris | St. Gabriel | Nazareth
Travel to Acco (Akko or Acre) to tour the impressive fortress remains where Christian Crusaders attempted to retake the Holy Land from the Muslims (1099-1291). Next we drive to Mt. Carmel to visit the Cave of Elijah (1 Kings 18) and celebrate Mass at Murhaka, the mountain where the prophet Elijah called down fire from heaven. Visit Stella Maris. Continue on to Nazareth to visit Angel Gabriel Greek Orthodox church. Enjoy local food for dinner in Nazareth. Overnight in Tiberias.
Day 6 Sunday, September 8, 2024 Samaria | Jacob | Sebastya | Jaffa | Wadi Elah | Jerusalem
Depart Galilee and travel to Jerusalem. We will visit Samaria and the well where Jesus took the drink from the Samaritan woman (John 4). Visit Sebastya, site of the original tombs of Elisha and St. John the Baptist. Celebrate an outdoor Mass. Travel to Jaffa. Visit St. Peter’s Church, where Peter healed Tabitha and had the vision of the sheet lowered from Heaven. Visit Elah Valley where David killed Goliath. Hands-on opportunity for you will learn how to sling a stone! Continue to Jerusalem for hotel check-in, dinner and overnight.
Day 7 Monday, September 9, 2024 Bethlehem | Hebron | Cave of Machpelah | Jerusalem
Drive to Bethlehem with time for shopping at a local Christian store. Celebrate Mass at the Milk Grotto Church, home of the Holy Family after they moved out of the cave with the manger. Drive south to Hebron and visit Machpelah, the Cave of Patriarchs, the tomb of Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, and Jacob and Leah. Visit Herodian National Park, a fortress of King Herod. Dinner with traditional dancing at the Grotto Restaurant in Bethlehem. Overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 8: Tuesday, September 10, 2024 Temple Mount | Bethany | Jericho | Bethel | Jerusalem
Enter the Old City through the Dung Gate to Temple Mount above the Western Wall; location of the Temple until it was destroyed in 70 AD. Current location of the Moslem shrines of Al Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock. Drive to Bethany where Jesus stayed with Mary, Martha and Lazarus. Celebrate Mass at the tomb of Lazarus. Drive to Jericho for tour and lunch. Visit Bethel where Jacob had his ladder dream. Walk along portion of the Good Samaritan Road. Back to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.
Day 9 Wednesday, September 11, 2024 City of David | Pool of Siloam | Church of St. Stephen | Jerusalem
Take a walking tour of the Old City of Jerusalem. Visit the cathedral dedicated to St. James, son of Zebedee and James the Less. Continue through the Jewish Quarter, the wall of Nehemiah and the City of David. We will arrive at the Pool of Siloam (John 9). Visit the Garden Tomb for educational purposes. After lunch we will celebrate Mass at the Church of St. Stephen the Deacon. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 10 Thursday, September 12, 2024 Holy Sepulchre | Herodian Walls | Free Afternoon
Early morning Mass at Church of Holy Sepulchre and tour. Nearby we will visit the Pre-crucifixion Herodian Walls that prove Christ was actually crucified outside the city walls. Free afternoon. We keep your room for you so you can return to the hotel to pack, rest, and have dinner. This evening, get ready for flight, through the night, back home.
Day 11 Return Flight to the USA Friday, September 13, 2024
