New and Exciting Things Around the Sea of Galilee: Day 3

Today we hugged the Sea of Galilee – all the way around. Going up the winding steep road up to the Golan Heights along the border with Jordan was a breath-taking ride. We stopped to explore the old Syrian military bunkers and to see the lay of the land. 

Several lookout points over the Sea of Galilee and a visit to Kursi where Jesus cast the demons out of the man of the Gadarenes into the pigs. Then we found the location of the 2nd multiplication of loaves and fish which no one even knows exists.

A tour of Bethsaida and Chorazin before lunch in a out of the way local restaurant with our friend Beni who makes everything himself. Delicious food! Then to our wine tasting tour of the Yarden Winery, a visit to a reconstructed Galilee village to experience life like it was lived by Our Lord and his apostles.

We stopped to visit the beautiful Greek Orthodox Church of Capernaum with the most magnificent icons and paints on every inch inside the church. A time for rest at our hotel and then a walk into Tiberias for Mass with the locals at St. Peter’s on the shore. A great dinner and early to bed.

    Mom and Dad,

    I’m not sure how you packed everything in to day three. It looks like you’re having a wonderful time. It was really cool seeing the Stone house like Jesus might have lived in. The kids enjoyed hearing their names and you saying hello. I thought the hill where the loaves and fishes were might’ve been the highlight of the day for dad until I saw the wine tasting. Love from Ohio, with a heat wave of 20.

    Amazing! I remember our pilgrimage from 2012 like it was yesterday. We get a reminder most weeks at Church when we hear the Gospel, Kristina and I nudge each other and mouth “we were there”. Part 2 looks even more amazing, getting to see the out-of-the-way places that even fewer people get to experience. I hope you are having a good time dad (Tom Govern) and bring back more pictures and memories.

    I’m intrigued as to why the second location of the multiplication of loaves and fishes is so unknown?
