Sad News of Christians in the Holy Land
by Steve Ray on November 17, 2009
Recently Janet and I led Legatus on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. One of the priests who went with us saw the Holy Land for the first time. Fr. John McCormick was a delightful priest full of humor and fun, orthodoxy and example. Here he waxes eloquent about what he saw.
“As many of you are aware, I was recently blessed with a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, spending over a week in Israel. Aside from the fulfillment of a dream of many years, as both a priest and one more of the disciples of Jesus, I know that the Scriptures will never again sound or be proclaimed in the same way. One of the factors that I both surprised and concerned me was the knowledge that only 1.5% of the total population in the land where Our Lord was born and died, is Christian…..”

Seen you a couple of times on video. Looks like you are enjoying your trip and congratulations on renewing your vows. Enjoy the rest of your trip and look forward to hearing about it.
This might be surprising for you! i am a catholic christian from the small town of Bethlehem, my name is richard tabash, i heard a lot about you and about the great mission that you do to support the christians in this small part of the world.
I emailed you a couple of times but unfortunately i was not successful. I always follow your great work, and have just found out that you are in the holyland, i got so excited, i would love to have the pleasure to meet you or even invite you and your family for either lunch or diner according to your schedule in my home.
I just want you to know that i admire people like you, because this is what keeps the small minority of christian to stay in this part of the world.
i hope that you will get the chance to read this, and hope to hear from you
god bless you

Hello! It’s so amazing to be able to share in your heavenly trip! I wish I could have been there to see you renew your vows, but this is the next best thing! Enjoy your visit to Cana today and I’ll be anxious to hear all about this great adventure when you return!
Blessings to all …
Mr. Ray, Thank you for sharing your letter from Fr. John McCormick. It was interesting and an eye-opener to be sure. How sad. So few people(Christians) are aware that, that is going on. I am going to make a copy of the letter and share it with others. God Bless Father McCormick for writing it.
Please say “Hi” to Father Dan Andrews, who is on your pilgrimage from Nebraska. He put your website in the bulletin so we could follow along with him in spirit and prayer. May God’s grace be upon you and all who are with you.
